As a PPG Platinum distributor, James Wren & Company is responsible for sales and technical demonstrations/assistance from Oamaru in the north to Balclutha in the south, Queenstown, Wanaka and other areas of Central Otago.

The company stocks and supplies the full range of PPG automotive paints and Mirka consumables. They are also agents for Festool Dustless Sanding Systems.

From its purpose-built dangerous goods facility in Carroll St, Wrens services 12 PPG systems in the Dunedin area and numerous industrial users throughout Otago and Central Otago.

PPG Background (History)

PPG began as the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. back in 1883 and since then has built an enviable reputation as a provider of quality auto finish products.

Of course, the progression from plate glass specialist to automotive refinishing leader did not happen overnight. In fact it was comparatively recently, in 1900 when PPG first looked into the paint industry and laid the groundwork for what was to happen nearly quarter of a century later.

In 1928, PPG acquired Ditzler Color Company, which had established itself as an automotive paint supplier. This was the platform that PPG as we know it today is based upon.

And most of us would recognise PPG product to be paint, but in fact, PPG's interests are more diverse than that. Products such as Nike Trainers, Whirlpool Dishwashers, Colgate Toothpastes, Pampers Nappies, Blockbuster Video membership cards, even Campbells Soup is packaged with product supplied by PPG.

But in the automotive sector, PPG's coating technology is found on two of every three cars which means that more OEM manufacturers choose to use PPG as their single-source paint supplier than any other brand, including the world's more exclusive car manufacturers such Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Ferrari.

In New Zealand, PPG has a distribution network of 11 Platinum distributors in 17 nationwide locations. In addition, there are 19 sole brand distributors throughout the country, backed by head office in Auckland and supported by territory managers who look after all the main centres.
